Coffea Arabica
Arabian coffee is the definitive coffee of the Earth. Arabia lends its name to the best quality coffee plant on
the planet, Coffea Arabica. Arabian coffee accounts for approximately eighty percent of all coffee produced in the
globe.
It likes higher elevations and drier climates than its cousin C. Robusta. The tropics of South America provide
ideal conditions for growing Arabian coffee which grows best between three thousand and 6,500 feet but has been
grown as high as nine thousand feet. Often , the bigger the plant is grown the slower it matures. This allows it
space to develop the internal elements and oils that give coffee its savoury flavour. Coffee was originally
discovered in Ethiopia, just across the Red Sea from Arabia. Coffee shortly made its way to Yemen where it was
welcomed by the Islamic folks. Shortly it turned into a libation suggestd by the Islamic ministers as drinking
alcohol was restricted in their faith. Arabian coffee shortly came to be known as an Islamic drink.
Arabian coffee was exported to Europe where the folk welcomed it. However, the Catholic Cardinals shunned it as
the 'Devil's drink' and attempted to have it banned.
But then Pope Clement VIII decided that it'd be imprudent to
prohibit the libation without having tasted it, so he summoned a sample. As legend has it, the Pope was instantly
enamored by the distinct, strong scent and taste. He made a decision that to banish the pleasant drink would be a
larger sin. So he baptized it on the spot saying that it'd be a shame to let the impious ones have this pleasant
drink all to themselves. Arabian coffee is still part of the Islamic religion and is use in ritualistic rites.
Arabian coffee growers protected their monopoly on the valued plant. They were the exclusive suppliers of coffee
across the world for many hundred years. That is till a coffee plant finally made its way to the Caribbean.
This commenced a new inheritance of top quality coffee in South America. It is expounded that all of the Arabica
coffee grown worldwide started from this plant as cuttings were transplanted all around the globe. Arabian coffee
is actually the source of coffee thru the globe. The word mocha comes from the name Mokha, the shipping port in
Yemen where all Arabian coffee was exported. Mocha has changed into a term used for describing a coffee drink in
which chocolate is added. But originally it didn't have anything to do with chocolate.
